Getting involved with Christmas in Pocklington

As small market towns go, Pocklington certainly packs a festive punch when it comes to holding events in the build up to Christmas. With a strong community focus, Pocklington Town Council works hard to ensure local businesses make the most of the Christmas festivities.

The main Christmas Festival will be taking place in Market Place on Wednesday 5th December, with more information to be confirmed.

Alongside the Christmas Tree Festival (Find out more here) the Town Council is organising a Best Dressed Window competition. Businesses are encouraged to decorate their windows with a Christmas theme, either using the goods they sell or create a traditional scene. Windows will be judged during the evening of Monday 3rd December, with prizes given on stage during the Christmas Festival on Wednesday 5th December.

There will also be something a little different for 2018 – the Naughty Elf Hunt. The Town Council has 12 elves which are to be hidden in windows in the town centre, and local traders are being encouraged to ‘host’ an elf. If you would like to host one, you can let the Town Council know by Friday 9th November. If more than 12 businesses apply, names will be drawn from a hat by the Mayor at the end of the Town Council meeting on 14th November.

Entry forms for the Naughty Elf Hunt will be given to all school children in the town and will also be available from Pocklington Arts Centre. The competition will run from Saturday 1st December to Saturday 23rd December.
